The invitation is tucked beside a favourite book, and an afternoon in the garden is almost here. A pale lilac blossom brings the finishing touch to a softly tailored lapel, its curved petals catching a little of the light. Grey and aqua leaves sit beneath the flower, with warm gold-coloured details nestled among the folds. Quietly decorative and full of texture, this silk ronghua brooch carries a little of the garden into the day.
Why We Love It
- Handcrafted silk flowerwork gives the curled petals a soft, textured finish.
- Pale lilac and ivory petals sit above grey and aqua leaves with fine gold-coloured borders.
- A sculptural floral detail for a jacket, coat or other suitably firm fabric.
Details & Materials
Traditional silk velvet flower craft in which silk fibres are worked around fine copper wire and shaped into floral forms. This brooch combines a lilac and ivory flower, wrapped stem, leaf details, gold-coloured accents, clear decorative stones and an ivory pearl-effect bead. The reverse has a long stick pin with a protective cap.
Clothing and other styling accessories are not included. Small differences in the shaping and arrangement are part of the handcrafted finish.
The Craft Behind the Bloom
The traditional process begins with preparing, dyeing and drying the silk. The fibres are then worked around fine copper wire to form velvet-like lengths, heated and shaped, and trimmed into tapered floral elements. These pieces are assembled and secured by hand to create the flower before the finished piece is packed. Each stage calls for patient shaping and careful handling of the fine silk fibres.
Size
Approximately W 5 × H 12 cm (2.0 × 4.7 in). Small variations may occur with the hand-shaped flowerwork.
How to Wear
Place it on a jacket lapel or a coat to bring a soft floral note to simple tailoring. Choose fabric that can support the pin, fasten the protective cap securely, and take care with delicate weaves.
Care
Keep dry and away from oils and prolonged direct sunlight. Store in a dry box with space around the petals. Handle by the stem or pin fitting, avoiding pressure on the silk flowerwork. Gently shake away loose dust rather than washing or rubbing the fibres.
