The Craft: A Tiny World Within Glass
The enclosed jellyfish motif combines delicate strands of colour with the depth of clear glass. In the tradition of encased glass art, a decorative element is covered with transparent glass to create a layered, three-dimensional appearance. Flameworking, also called lampworking, is a glassmaking technique in which glass rods or tubes are softened in a flame and shaped by hand.
Viewed through the curved glass surface, the bell-like form and trailing strands seem to drift as the pendant catches the light. Small differences in colour placement, pattern, shape and detailing give each handmade piece its own character.
