The Craft: A Tiny World Within Glass
The enclosed jellyfish effect brings together delicate strands of colour and the depth of clear glass. In the tradition of encased glass art, a decorative element is covered with transparent glass, giving the finished piece its layered, three-dimensional appearance. Flameworking, also known as lampworking, is a glassmaking technique in which glass rods or tubes are softened in a flame and carefully shaped by hand.
Here, the rounded bell and flowing coloured strands can be viewed through the curved glass surface, while the dark backing makes their colours stand out. Look closely and you will notice the small differences in the internal pattern, colour placement and silhouette that give each handmade pendant its own character.
